I have no idea how it is already February 6th. But it is. Which puts us 8 days away from Valentine's day. Some people think it's corporate nonsense, other people think it's irritating and couply. I think it's nice to have an excuse to say "I love you!" And to do it with paper? Even better.

I bought this kit from Paper Source to use with my daughter. Did you know that exchanging valentines now starts in preschool? The kids have no idea what's going on but I'm on board if I get to help her glue hearts and sparkly things onto paper.

Yes, Valentine's Day is just a week away! If you're feeling crafty and don't want to go with traditional cards, flowers or chocolates... try one of these great do-it-yourself projects I found.

Crayon Stained Glass Card - Martha Stewart. Gorgeous! And you get to use up a few broken crayons.

Heart Cookies - Baby Jives. These are a nice alternative if you're looking for a sweet gift without all the sugar.

Quilled Cards - Martha Stewart. I'm not sure I have the patience for this one but I love how the examples look.

As anyone with a toddler will tell you, crayons don't last long. In our house we have a crayon bin that is at least half-filled with broken pieces of crayon. Wondering what to do with those broken pieces? I saw these great do-it-yourself ideas on Ohdeedoh.

Growing up I loved having advent calendars and counting down to Christmas. Now that I have my own family I'm excited to get the tradition going again.


I came across this one recently from J. Hill Design and I think it's lovely.


I like the non-ordered numbers and the abstract drawings. Also, it's a DIY calendar with a free download with any purchase!

hannukah

Since Hannukah starts on Wednesday I feel I have an excuse to jump straight from Thanksgiving into Hannukah and Christmas mode! Hooray!

I went looking for nicely designed menorahs and found a ton in every different style imagineable and some with shocking price tags. My favorite is this simple branching design from Crate & Barrel. Also, it's affordable.

thanksgiving

I truly love Thanksgiving. I don't think there's a better holiday. It's not based on any particular religion, it involves fantastic food and lots of family time, and it guarantees a 4-day weekend. From a design perspective I prefer to decorate with fall colors and natural elements, rather than references to turkeys or pilgrims. As always when approaching a holiday, I found a lot of inspiration from Martha Stewart.

I love the fall. I love cold nights and wearing sweatshirts and not having to keep my toenails pretty. And my 2-year-old likes to remind me that Halloween is soon!
