off to mexico

It's that time of the year. We are packing up to head to my in-law's house in Guadalajara, Mexico. I highly recommend having in-laws in beautiful, warm places. It's the best.

This is the view from the patio during the rainy season.

I'll be back in a couple weeks.

pencil carvings

Check out these insane pencil carvings from artist Dalton Ghetti. (I saw them on telegraph.co.uk) I love the tiny alphabet. Some of the others I can hardly believe were made from a pencil.

So cool!

information is beautiful

These posters from Always With Honor just blow me away. Excellent information design is hard to come by and these guys are amazing. Can you imagine if the IRS hired them to help make tax forms easier to read/understand?

For more inspirational examples of information design, check out Information is Beautiful - the blog and the book.

chalkboard planters

I saw this DIY post on design sponge and I was totally inspired! Of course, I don't have a lot of things that need planting, nor do I have a lot of space for things that need planting. But if I did, I would totally attempt this not-too-scary DIY chalkboard planter idea.

So cool, right??

new address

After nearly pulling my hair out in frustration I now have a fancy new address for this blog:

blog.leafprintdesign.com

I'm not sure what will happen if you have this blog in a reader at the old url but hopefully I won't lose anyone along the way.

periodic table

How awesome is this? My fantastic mother-in-law sent me the link. I think everyone should have one as a reference. Too many people don't think about what typeface they're using. (Dan Gilbert's letter to Lebron in Comic Sans?!)

The more we learn about type the better informed we can be in our communications with the world.

iphone happiness

Returning from a vacation can be so exhausting - the unpacking, the laundry, the exhaustion when your toddler has trouble sleeping in her own room again...

The good news is that my iphone4 arrived while I was gone. I somehow found the energy to get it set up the night we got home. It was a breeze to transfer everything over from my old phone and it's quite a step up! I had the original iphone for 2.5 years and I adored it. This one is better! It's lighter, the screen is extra sharp, it's kind of amazing. I'm not a total apple geek (both of my computers run windows - gasp!) but they have no competition when it comes to package design.

Yum.
